You are greeted by a melange of colors the moment you set foot inside Oviya Arts -  The Art Studio. The proprietor, Ms.Bhoomadevi is lost in her mesmerizing world of art as she talks about her journey, which encompasses learning some really interesting forms of painting.

I was completely awestruck by the number of techniques and styles of painting she has mastered, and put on display at her art studio in T.Nagar. She is one of the few artists in Chennai, who know how to create a 3-D mural, and she imports the clay for the same from Hyderabad.

The smooth strokes of the Kerala Mural, the rough charcoal like appearance of the pencil sketches, the glittering kundan embellishments or the familiar oil and stained glass paintings would all qualify as worthy contenders to feature in your living room.

Included in her long list of talents, are the tedious Tanjore paintings which she creates in sizes that are unavailable in most places. The highlight however lies in the embossing that gives a 3-D effect which is a tad different from the conventional Tanjore art. The smallest (5x5) could prove to be a worthy gift for any occasion with prices ranging from Rs.250 onwards. The biggest is so mammoth that, you'd have to shell out almost half a lakh to be the proud owner. However, I found her Tanjore painting on glass very contemporary yet not letting go of their traditional feel.

Apart from all this, Bhooma also creates trendy jewelry with pristine crystals from Bombay and also paints motifs on T-shirts, jeans, saris, dress materials and even bed sheets using the nib technique which gives an embroidered look. Talk about being multi-talented!

Bhooma has a steady NRI clientele apart from her celebrity customers and also undertakes classes to pass on her knowledge to those interested. To know more about the courses or to deck up your living room with her creations,
